Thomas Hawley "Seascapes (mostly)"

Art is (or should be), at least in part, an exploration of the artists subconscious. This exploration can only take place if the artist is willing to abdicate, to some extent, control over the process of creation so as to let an element of the irrational or the unintended inform the work. The sea, with its ever changing colors, shapes, and contrasts, gives the artist the freedom to ignore artistic convention and allow for the unexpected to happen.
