About the event

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for the Central California Coast Art Region is presented by the Pacific Grove Art Center an affiliate of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Silver and Gold Key recipients are showcased during the month of March beginning Friday, March 1 from 7-9 pm until the Closing Ceremony on Saturday, March 30 from 1-4 pm.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nations youth, and provided opportunities for creative teens in grades 7-12 to be celebrated. Each year, increasing numbers of teens participate in the program, and become a part of our communityyoung artists and writers, filmmakers and photographers, poets and sculptors, video game artists and science fiction writers, along with countless educators who support and encourage the creative process.

Submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

Students receiving Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions, or American Visions & Voices Nominations are celebrated within their communities through local exhibitions and ceremonies. Gold Key works are then judged nationally by an impressive panel of creativeindustry experts to receive National Medals, including Gold, Silver, American Visions & Voices, Portfolio Silver with Distinction or Portfolio Gold Medals and Special Awards. National Medalist are recognized in part at the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
